The 62-acre town in East Haddam was put up for auction in October, with the highest bid coming in at $1.9 million, however the offer has since fallen through. Now a group of people on Twitter, lead by Chicago-based writer and designer Dan Sinker, are trying to raise enough money to buy the deserted hamlet, which has an array of Victorian buildings, including an old post office, a schoolhouse, a general store (bottom right), the original homestead of the mill owners, and even an abandoned church. Johnsonville has laid deserted for decades, with 'No Trespassing' signs warning curious travelers to stay away (main). So far 108 people have pledged between $1,000 and $10,000 each to buy the village.
