And the Lord said: 'Judah shall go up; behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.'
JUDGES (1:2)

הוַיֹּאמֶר יְ-הוָה יְהוּדָה יַעֲלֶה הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי אֶת הָאָרֶץ בְּיָדוֹ
שופטים א:ב

va-yo-mer a-do-nai y'-hu-da ya-a-le hi-nay na-ta-tee et ha-a-retz b'-ya-do

The name Judah was given at birth when Leah said, ”let me gratefully praise God” (Genesis 29:35). Leah was especially grateful now that she had been granted more than her rightful share after giving birth to the 4th of the 12 sons of Jacob. The name Judah / Yehudah means thankfulness and Jews have come to be called "Yehudim" after Judah, because of the vital characteristic of always being grateful to God and always recognizing that He has given us more than our rightful share.
