And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered.
GENESIS (7:19)

Our Jewish sages explain that during the great flood described in Genesis, rain did not fall over the Land of Israel! However, as there is no gate surrounding the land, the flood waters did enter the Land from the surrounding lands. Since the powerful rain did not fall directly on the Land of Israel, the trees were not affected and the dove was subsequently able to find an olive leaf at the end of the flood. The dove grasping an olive branch has become a symbol of peace. This icon emerged at the re-initiation of the world, when God's anger was quenched and Noah was commanded to continue mankind anew. And it emerged from the Land of Israel, a land of peace. Plant your own roots here in the Holy Land.
