Another word is Jihad, which is nothing more than a struggle to improve yourself, which has no war undertones to it whatsoever. The real word for war in the Islamic world is Al-Harb. But "Jihadi John" is a much spookier sounding villain than "Harbin Harry" so jihad it is.
