As someone who has travelled extensively in Europe and even once owned a flat in western Belgium, One of my beautiful daughters-in-law is French and my son lived happily there for years. I remain very pro-European. I was also a supporter of stayint in the EU..
Some weeks ago my old friend Aileen Quinton persuaded me to go to the Leave event in Titanic. I was deeply impressed by what I heard from the podium, especially by Kate Hoey MP, another friend of long standing.
I have been pondering the issues ever since - especially TTIP. In a spirit of openness I want to formally advise everyone that I am no longer in favour of remaining within the EU. The danger to UK workers coming from TTIP is crucial. International capital running rampant over Europe and only the European Court can intervene. No one from the left can, in all conscience, vote to remain without considering this issue. Next week I hope people will vote McGimpsey 1 in East Belfast. Next month I hope everyone will, like me, vote to leave the EU".
