Dear @julieplec, @carolinedries and @MichaelNarducci :
Or beginning this letter on a more poetic note…
Dear creators of fantasy, weekly providers of emotions and story-tellers of legend:
We write to you with a request as two unconditional and avid fans of your work. The universe and characters that you created in The Vampire Diaries now expanded with the addition of The Originals as its own series has entranced us from the very first day.
And in this magnificent and always captivating journey we collected two very special to us favorite characters.
As far as we know it was never the original intention to prolong Katherine appearances outside of flashbacks for more than a couple of chapters. We think that it would be vastly unnecessary for anyone to question why that decision changed after contemplating what Nina was capable of doing with the part. She quickly became not only a fan favorite but also one of the most, complex, utterly entertaining, magnificent and complex characters to ever be in the program. And we adore each and every one of her facets.
Elijah was equally a surprise. Not even intended to last for more than one single episode. He became that unique type of character that you simple cannot resist. A constant contradiction and yet loyal to himself if that makes any sense. Our first exposure to the Original family and in is core the reason for its existence. How can you not be a supporter of the elegant and so called noble Original?
At this point you can probably already suspect which is our favorite couple…but what you need to understand is that we are not merely a couple of occasional viewers who enjoyed the idea of Katherine and Elijah together. We were enamored with the concept since the first hints of them during the second season. We extensively talk time and time again about the limitless possibilities of the two. We discussed thousands of different scenarios for them. The magic and unique feeling related to the two…How they were genuinely perfect for each other. Say what you might about Stelena or Delena…But none of them can claim that they know patience as a Kalijah supporter does. We dreamed about our Petrova and her Original since it was nothing more than a brilliant fantasy.
Naturally we were ecstatic at the point of their reunion. And even when it was short lived and certainly not without conflicts our happiness was unrivaled during this brief interlude. It was all there. The connection…the history… the way they acted so different in the presence of the other…the potential to be so, so much more…
It’s not that we can’t understand narrative flux or history progression. It is neither a capricious whim nor that we are blind to the limitations now that you have two series to manage. But this Hayley and Elijah story arc along with the new spoilers expressing that the next step in what already is an immensely interesting journey regarding Katherine and her humanity added to a reencounter with her lost daughter will be to explore her love to one of the Salvatores…It feels like an abandonment.
We are thrilled with the new seasons. They both present wonderful new roads to explore both history and character wise so we obviously share an eagerness to discover what will happen next. But we can’t avoid this constant…lingering feeling of true sadness and almost melancholy. Not like the one you would experience when your favorite couple isn’t together because of different circumstances and grudges. But like the one you feel when you know that you are being forgotten.
So…This is our request…:
Please don’t forget about us.
Please don’t forget about the five hundred years old story between Katherine and Elijah.
Please don’t forget about Katherine who gave him the cure, placing her very fate on his hands in an act of unrivaled love.
Please don’t forget about Elijah, who gave her another chance when no one else would.
Please don’t forget about Katherine begging him to accept an Eternity together in the most heartbreaking scene of the last season.
Please don’t forget about Elijah equally begging his brother to grant him this opportunity to love.
Please don’t forget about the man who didn’t believe in love…And his Katerina.
