Don't Say It's All For The Better Part 1

Beep! Beep! Beep! I rolled over in bed and hit my alarm to shut it up. I hated waking up this early. But, today I had no choice. I had to go into work and train a newbie. Great. I got up and headed straight to the bathroom to have a shower. I only had a quick shower. I grabbed a towel and headed back into my room. I quickly dressed and began to dry my hair. "You're up early." I heard a sleepy voice say. I turned the hair dryer off and looked up. Nathan was standing in my door way.
"Morning Nath. I gotta be. Got to go to work and train a newbie." I said brushing my hair.
"Are you even quailified to train people?" He asked.
"Well, I can teach them the basics. I'm the only one in the department that doesn't freak. Everyone else just handles the paper work. Leaving me and Jon to deal with everything else." I sighed. He smiled.
"The reptile wrangler." He laughed. I threw a hair clip at him. He ducked and laughed. It's true. That's what the guys at work called me.
"Hey Nath, when did you say your last audition was?" I asked.
"Next week. 10 of us were selected. Only 5 will get it." He replied. I smiled. Nathan had a great voice and he played the piano beautifully.
"You'll be fine. Anyway gotta dash! See ya later!" I said stopping to peck his cheek before I dashed down the stairs, grabbed my keys and coat and left the flat.

"Morning gorgeous!" Max called as I walked into work.
"Hey Max!" I said as I signed in.
"You too should just go out ya know!" Anne called from behind the desk laughing.
"Shut up you!" I said also laughing. She looked at me and gave me her cheeky smile. That girl was trouble, but a great laugh.
"You got a newbie today?" Max asked.
"Yeah." I said picking up the file that had been sent. "Name's Thomas Parker. No prior experience... Great. This should be fun." I said closing the file.
"How you gonna cope with the spiders?" He asked playfully, using his hand to make crawling motions on my shoulder.
"Fuck off!" I said slapping his hand with the folder. He laughed and so did Anne.
"Oh yeah Kay, I forget to mention. I got through to a final selection audition." He said, his eyes lighting up.
"Is it in London?" I aksed.
"Yeah how'd you know?" He asked. I smiled.
"My flat mate got through too. Nathan Sykes." I said.
"Nice! I'll keep a look out for him!" Max said. I laughed and waved at him as I headed for the Reptile Department. I switched the lights on and began doing the morning checks. Temperature: Normal. Food Levels: Stable. Water Levels: Average. Good Everything seemed in order. I checked my watch. 7:00. Right that gave me half an hour to prepare for this newbie.
I looked up when I heard a knock at the door. "Come in." I called.
"Katie, this is Thomas Parker." Anne said. I nodded and she left and shut the door.
"Would you be prefered to be called Thomas or Tom?" I asked standing up.
"Tom" He replied, he had a strong Bolton accent.
"Right. Hello Tom, i'm Katie and i'll be the one showing the ropes." I said smiling. He shook my hand but looked skeptical. "Yes, I am young to be doing a job such as this but man up and deal with it." I said. He frowned but nodded. "Good. We'll start with the lizards. They're the least dangerous thing in this department. How are you with snakes, lizards ect?" I asked as we wakled through to the lizards tanks.
"I don't know. I've never had to deal with them." He replied. I rolled my eyes. This is gonna be hard work.
