Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination tonight in Cleveland with a speech that many pundits say appeals to Americans who fear that their country is unsafe and failing, and those who want a leader to protect and fight for them. His address clocked in at over an hour and 15 minutes, and he became one of the rare political outsiders to top the ticket of a major political party. Trump denounced the United States involvement in "15 years of wars in the Middle East," and called for the U.S. to "immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism." He also pledged to help Americans at home, especially lower-wage workers and those facing unemployment. Trump also used his speech to hit his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, and repeatedly called her years as secretary of state into question
