Electric Car Business Couldn’t Survive Without Subsidies…
RUSH: By the way, can I ask you a question about the electric car business? I saw say story that chronicled, I forget where, how the electric car business still could not exist without federal subsidies.
There isn't a single electric car out there that could survive on its own without subsidies. So I say, "How long has this been going on?" How long have these...? Not hybrids, purely electric cars. So I went back and looked at it. We're 15 years into the whole electric car thing. And everybody's touting it. "Oh, man, it's the future! Oh, wow, man, it's so cool! Oh, yeah! I'm getting increased range, faster charge times. Oh, man! And the cars are getting better looking." And you couldn't survive in the market without taxpayers giving you money.
What other businesses are allowed to stay in business 15, 20 years by being subsidized? I mean, pretty much fully. How does a billionaire with an electric car company for 10 or 15 years remain a billionaire when he's never turned a profit? (interruption) I don't know who I'm talking about. Any of them. I don't care. Take your pick. How do billionaires who have electric car companies -- and have never made a profit for 15 or 20 years and they sell cars -- stay billionaires? Whose money are they using? The key is, they're not making a profit. Oh, they're multibillionaires, and therefore there are multibillions to lose?
