Iowa GOP Governor Urges Voters to Reject Cruz Because of Ethanol

RUSH: This from TheHill.com.com: "Iowa Governor: Don't Vote for Cruz."

The Iowa governor is a Republican.

"The governor of ethanol-rich Iowa says voters there should reject Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz over his position on the federal renewable fuel mandate." That's ethanol. "Speaking with with reporters Tuesday at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit, Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said voters should oppose Cruz when they turn out to caucus next month, calling him the 'biggest opponent of renewable fuels' in the presidential race. 'He’s heavily financed by Big Oil,' Branstad said, according to the Des Moines Register. 'So we think once Iowans realize that fact, they might find other things attractive but he could be very damaging to our state.' Cruz 'hasn’t supported renewable fuels, and I think it would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him,' he added."

They're trying to destroy Ted Cruz. This is the establishment trying to take Ted Cruz out. And this ethanol business, I remember, I had taken heat from callers in Iowa some years ago. I just remember one incident, but it's illustrative. I happened to be critical of ethanol as unnecessary. It's not helping automobile engines, it's not helping them, all this stuff that's used, it's corporate welfare for Iowa farmers. Well, I was deluged with phone calls from Iowa Republican voters shouting at me, "Rush, do you just want to throw the election away? Rush, is that what you want to do? That it, 'cause that's what you're gonna do. If you're gonna come out and you're gonna come out against that, you may as well just be giving Iowa to the Democrats, 'cause I guaran-damn-tee you there's no Republican gonna win Iowa here unless they're all-in for whatever help to the corn farmers."

It's that simple, and it's not new. Been that way for a while. This is the mother's milk of politics. This is how it works. They just need to find other uses for corn 'cause they can't depend on people wanting to eat it as much as you can divert production into fuel. I mean, everybody uses gasoline and will use gasoline from now until the end of time. So, man, I don't care what you renewable people think, gasoline, fossil fuels are not gonna be out of favor any time soon. But the point is, here you have a sitting Republican governor on the warpath urging Republican caucus voters not to elect Ted Cruz. Now, Ted Cruz happens to be a great conservative who wants to implement conservative principles and ideas, which include reducing the size of government, reducing the dependence on government, reducing corporate welfare like this. And you can see what an enemy anybody who speaks this way is.

So Danera calls here, "I don't understand, we've got the best --" Terry Branstad doesn't care a whit about beating Democrats, Danera. Terry Branstad, at the end of the day, doesn't care about stopping whatever the Obama agenda is that's wreaking havoc on this country. Terry Branstad cares about making sure that ethanol remains used and paid for by the federal government. It's money. It's economics for his state. He doesn't have time to worry about whatever damage the Obama agenda is doing. In that sense, the old saw about all politics is local.
