It's unfair for so-called activists to try and pressure LeBron to get involved in Tamir Rice protests. Why do we expect all black people to think alike, and if they don't agree with you, they're somehow a sellout, etc.?
Reasonable black people can and do have different opinions on the Tamir Rice case, as well as other matters. Are we all supposed to march in goose step unison like Nazi soldiers? The police officers were probably too trigger happy and poorly trained in Tamir's case--yes.
However,Tamir's parents have some responsibility too. Why would his parents buy a toy gun that looked so real for their child? Why would they allow him to be outside with that gun? We're not living in the '50s, a fairly innocent time when a lot of westerns were on TV, and kids wanted to imitate their western heroes. These are different times. The only people openly carrying guns in the streets nowadays are bad people.
Tamir’s parents should have been more involved and more aware of what he was doing. Sadly, too many black boys have been mama-ed to death. They and their mamas think when those boys go outside, the world is going to mama them also. It doesn’t work that way. Those boys need better guidance.
As a group, we really do need to step back sometimes from always looking at these situations through the eyes of a victim. Sometimes, our own actions can bring about bad consequences.
