For our 15th season, TWT presents two fascinating new plays based on Williams’ work, casual conversations with scholars, free acting classes, and a hilarious street party – all steeped in the beauty of a classic Southern town whose spirit has long inspired writers, artists and academics.

Opening Night Gala
Join us for food, drink, a silent auction and the new play sometimes there’s God so quickly. Based on interviews with friends, acquaintances and fans of Tennessee Williams, actor and playwright David Roby portrays 19 different characters – including a resident of Columbus!

Scholars’ Luncheon – Our annual Scholars’ Luncheon is a casual way to get to know fans and locals. We provide a delicious catered lunch, gorgeous classical music and some tasty morsels about Williams’ life served up by scholars.

Acting Workshop I – Artist-in-Residence David Roby uses monologues and scenes from Tennessee Williams’ plays to help participants suit the words to the actions. The class is geared to aspiring performers of all levels, or anyone else who is interested in learning more about the process of bringing Williams’ text to life.

Hollyhocks Stella Shouting Contest – The hilarious street party with prizes for the most dramatic performances. Dress up like Stanley Kowalski from A Streetcar Named Desire and cry out passionately: “Stellaaaaaahhh!” Winner becomes a Columbus legend (for a day), and is treated to a special dinner that night hosted by Hollyhocks.

Inspired by Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, playwright David Roby’s original work gives voice to characters who are mentioned – but never seen – in the classic “memory play.” Beloved Columbus actors expand Williams’ poetic universe.
