Neuroscientist Sandrine Thuret says new nerve cells can be generated in the brain, despite the former belief that this was not possible. The hippocampus can create about 700 new neurons per day. Old age and disease can limit the development of neurons, and some cancer drugs do the same. However, Dr. Thuret says that people can stimulate the production of new brain neurons through learning, diet, fasting, and exercising.
