Now that a stand-alone version of legislation strengthening presidential power to fast-track global trade deals has passed the House in a 218-208 vote, the next test comes in the Senate, where the @AP notes it will need the support of a dozen or so pro-trade Democrats. They'll have to act without knowing for certain whether a second piece of legislation that will provide aid to workers who lose jobs in overseas deals, also voted down last week, will make it to the president's desk. That measure must now face a Senate vote first, before being sent back to the House.
