Participants at a two day public hearing on the petroleum industry bill PIB in Port Harcourt are calling on the National Assembly to make law to ensure oil companies pay penalties for gas flaring to host communities.

The public hearing is conducted by the House of Representative Adhoc Committee on the PIB in all the Geo political zones for the purpose of collating the views of Nigeria.

Participants at the public hearing for the South South Zone held n Port Harcourt frowned at the present scenario whereby those affected by gas flare are shut out of the compensation.
