The Rivers State government says it has taken steps to check flooding in Rivers State following the Nigeria Meteorological Agency prediction of heavy rain fall this year.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication Ibim Semenatari told our correspondent that government has commenced the drilling of canals and creeks in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas to ensure smooth flood control in the state.
