The UN International Criminal Court sentenced former Congolese vice-president Jean-Pierre Bemba to 18 years in prison for allowing and even encouraging rapes and murders by his soldiers in the Central African Republic over a decade ago. This case is important, not only because of the cry for justice – which is good – but because the Court is striving to gain legitimacy as the future high court of the world – which may not be so good considering the corruption found at all levels of the UN.
