Grayson's teacher never answered my email, but sent a mass email out today (which I DID NOT get!):

This letter is coming home today:
Parents, January 5, 2010

It has come to my attention that several of you did not know about the READO card that is due January 21. Although I did not send home information about it at the beginning of the second nine weeks, I did talk to the students in depth about it and explained to them that they needed to inform you. I now see that that has not happened.

I know the READO card is a change from what the students were used to, but it was a needed change. Several of the students were reading the same kind of books over and over. I can’t tell you how tired I was of hearing prove-its on Diary of a Wimpy Kid! The READO card was put in place in order for the students to read different genres. The card is made up of 25 squares with different types of literature, ex. nonfiction, historical fiction, realistic fiction, biography, etc. Since we still do not have AR, they do not a certain “level.” I have just asked that they read books that are not too low (20 words per book!) and to ask me if they have a question as to whether a book will count or not. All of these types of books can be found in the school library.

Since several of you are just now finding out about this, I am going to lower the requirements for each grade. Now, 25-16 = A, 15-11 = B, 10-6 = C, 5-3 = D, 2-0 = F. The cards are still due January 21.

I will make sure to send home more information at the beginning of next nine weeks.
