The British vote to exit the European Union, at least on the surface, was based on immigration.
In the United States, the immigration issue is credited with propelling Donald Trump’s candidacy.

Most Americans of all stripes oppose illegal immigration, but they oppose it without the demagogue approach used by Trump. The question is, have the Democrats staked out a position on immigration that is so inconsistent with how most Americans feel about immigration.

The Democrats’position on immigration doesn’t give them much flexibility. Their position gives the impression they don’t oppose illegal immigration. The perception is the Democrat don’t forcefully oppose illegal immigration because it wants to cater to the Hispanic vote. But the Democrats’ position makes the party vulnerable to attacks by the Trump campaign.

The good news is that the election isn’t until November. That’s enough time for the Democrats to clarify its message on immigration and let Americans know they support legal immigration but not illegal immigration.

For his part, Donald Trump is recognized as a buffoon, arrogant, a liar, and a demagogue. He’s all of that. But we, who oppose him, cannot take anything for granted, particularly poll numbers.

If you oppose Trump, you must register, and you must get your butt to the polls in November. Vote the entire ballot for judges, representatives, senators, ordinances, etc. That’s voting smart.
