Volkswagen CEO Steps Down

RUSH: You know what the biggest car company in the world is? It's Volkswagen. It would stun you what Volkswagen makes. You'd be stunned to learn all the cars they make. Anyway, the CEO is resigning because of this controversy over the fact that they lied or made up things about their emissions report on diesel vehicles, and I just saw now that there's all kinds of lawsuits being filed and investigations. You'd think this is one of the most major, horrible crimes ever committed, lying about emissions results on certain Volkswagen cars.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This situation at Volkswagen. Snerdley, do you know that Volkswagen owns Porsche now? You didn't know that? They own a lot of brands. They are the biggest car maker in the world. I have all the details here from our official climatologist, Roy Spencer. It's not just that the CEO lied or the company lied about emissions in some of their diesel vehicles. It's more than that. They actually purposefully programmed these cars to run differently when the computer sensed a routine emissions test was being done so that it would pass.

Folks, that is an engineering feat. That is stunning that they were able to do that. They were able to program those cars so that they knew when they were being tested and thus the cars ran differently and, i.e., were within limits. That's worth an invite to the White House. I mean for crying out, if you can copy a clock that's made by Radio Shack and impress Obama with that and get an invite to the White House, surely these engineers at Volkswagen would rate one. Maybe Apple will hire these guys, something they could do with iPhones. This is amazing here.

Seriously, program the cars to run differently when the computer, the on board car computer realized that an emissions test was being done, so that it was in limits. I mean, that's worse than inadvertent errors. That is a purposeful effort to cheat the climate, to cheat the planet, to cheat the environment, and of course that then offends Obama and now the pope, Volkswagen. Wouldn't you know. Wouldn't you know. Martin Winterkorn is the Volkswagen CEO.
