Was Bill Clinton
right on the crime
bill? © 2016

Former President Bill Clinton was recently attacked verbally at a rally for a position he took on the 1994 Crime Bill and incarceration. He responded to the verbal attack with a response of his own.

What Clinton said was neither untrue nor offensive to Blacks. Yet some Blacks, many connected to “Black Lives Matter” to his comments.Clinton said the people they were defending were guilty of doing harm to other African Americans.

The sad thing about the protesters is they seem to think all of the Blacks incarcerated are somehow political prisoners. But the facts tell a different story. Most are those who are incarcerated are there because they have committed some very serious crimes.

To make matters even worse, most of the crimes they’ve committed--try 90 percent--were against other black people. Many of those crimes were violent and resulted in murders.

If African Americans are going to sympathize with someone, shouldn’t it be with the victims of crimes rather than those who committed violent crimes?

We are a strong people. We shouldn’t expect everybody to baby us or only tell us what we want to hear. When did we become a people who couldn’t handle the truth or who didn’t want to hear the truth?
