'Whatever David says in his book ( Psalms/Tehillim) pertains to himself,to all Israel, and to all times."--Rabbi Yudan

"If one would only know the power of verses in Tehillim, and their effect on high, one would recite them continuously. The verses of Tehillim transcend all barriers and ascend higher and higher, imploring the Master of the Universe until they achieve results of kindness and mercy."--Rebbe Tzmach Tzedek

Tehillim is derived from Hebrew root word "hallel","to praise".
This Book of Psalms,or Sefer Tehillim, was composed by King David and is divided into five books.
"Moses gave Israel the Five Books of Torah, and David gave Israel the five books of the Tehillim."
Tehillim are recited by Jewish people to offer praise and thanksgiving to God or,alternatively,in time of crisis and need,as a form of supplication, and to express regret for sin.
