When I was a kid,the Civil War was not something that was discussed very much.
There was a popular TV show called 'The Gray Ghost" about confederate troops "Mosby's Raiders" and I remember a song on an early TV show '"Lucky Strike Hit Parade" aka "Your Hit Parade"called "Twilight time" which was a duet sung by a man in a Confederate officer's Uniform and a woman in stereotypical Southern belle attire but I think the black do-wop group "The Platters' also recorded a version I liked much better musically.

Here are some of those old black & white TV shows:

The "stars amd bars" were everywhere but it did not make a "racist" out of me. We were all poor in my neighborhood together --all colors & all ethnicities.

When I was doing family history research I was surprised to learn that two of my German Jewish relatives who came to New Orleans were conscripted for the New Orleans confederate Home Guard right off the boat and one made boots & uniforms and the other delivered messages or worked in a print shop or whatever. They did not know how to shoot and never were in combat.
On my mother's side we had a Choctaw relative who was a Confederate Calvary lieutenant--no surprise since we have had excellent equestrians on both sides of the family. When the family farm was expropriated by 'white trash" since it belonged to "Indians" who were disenfranchised as counting for human beings by the courts, his cousin had tried to stop it and was shot and left to die by "blue coats' presumably US military of the day. That story was passed down but only reluctantly and NOT widely discussed. It led to the conversion of the family to Judaism--another story.
On the 100th anniversary of the Civil War, dime stores sold gray and blue felt imitation Civil War battle hats without a thought. Confederate and union flags were flown and there were no racial hostilities or outbreaks.Reenactors of Civil War times have always been popular. I remember holding a horse once for a reenactor of Terry's Rangers. Again, no racial slurs or violence meant or done. The only KKK types I ever encountered were few and far between --at least when I was a kid --and they were FBI informants.
So why this current mob hysteria over the "stars and bars" I have NO idea.
Why now?
And why all the stupid photoshopped photos of the MK Ultra poster boy holding the Stars & Bars?
Is this supposed to be black cred or something?
Trying to start another Race War & Civil War combination --more bang for he taxpayers bucks?
