@chamillionaire I think the difference between rap groups/teams and brands is the fact that clothing doesn't really push a movement and doesn't push an idea of direct competitiveness between them. But I think the way I perceive my favorite team or rap group is that I want to be part of the movement. I think its the fact that people only really can put there all into one thing, to be part of a movement would mean to give your all into it. When your talking about sports and rap. When your favorite rapper is the best, you feel like your team or movement is winning. Because everyone wants to win.
As for wearing clothes or shoes, Me wearing Louis Vuitton shoes doesn't mean I'm winning. Because there's no competition. But, my clothing only helps push what I wanna push as a person. and help me to be part of the movement. I haven't lost or gained by choosing one brand over another because the company hasn't singled me out or given the idea of a movement. But when record companies and 'teams' like YMCMB that push the idea of a movement start clothing lines. They push that in the clothing. So from wearing shoes that made me feel like I'm not part of a movement, I've now bought into the idea of being a part of the team. like a contribution to the overall success of the company. It's the same reason behind apple and blackberry. They compete with each other but never give implications that you're part of the team or you can't own a iPhone and a blackberry. Because you're not part of it. you're just a consumer of an average product. It's when rappers get into direct competition that as a consumer or fan, I feel as though I have to pick sides. Because hip-hop has just asked me to. The competitive nature behind it has made me think one rapper has to be better than the other. So that's why I think Its different between rappers/favorite football teams and clothing or brands.
