I like this button3 people like this
@elitehninja I just walked to the kitchen to grab something and was thinking about bringing up that topic. You beat me to it, but here is a speech anyway.  I believe that it is human nature to be ambitious, to want to be better, more than what we are.  I think that this exists in all people, even the lifelong fry-cooks.  The problem is when ego or narcissism deludes that ambition and people begin to believe that they really are that upgraded self.  There are also the people who just don't have enough faith in themselves, but that's a different topic.

My brother believes that he is harder than any motherfucker on the street and that the streets chose him, but really he's just some punk ass kid who would rather do something stupid than have to work hard at anything.  Some people, I dare say the ones with too much privilege and too much free time, go as far as creating a "resume of falsehood".  They live out these fantastical imaginary lives and it's like, "bitch please, you rarely leave Beaver county and everyone knows it." There realities would be crushed if they realized that no, they're not a star and people 2 hours away are unlikely to have even heard of the town they live in.

I won't lump everyone into a generalization, especially because there are parts of your life or your self which you just don't control, such as where you're born.  I will say that this culture is embedded in the region, but there are people who embrace that ambition with humility and decide to stay in the area and I respect them as much as they deserve.  However, that is not the majority.  More often than not, the real success stories are the ones who broke free from the bubble.
