- My JR Camp illustration on why we are Baptists will involve some bead craft over 2 lessons. Any suggestions? Here's what I have so far:
A wooden cross - Christ our Saviour and Lord
String - our faith, which binds us together
Black bead - the old black Book, the Bible
Red bead - the blood of Christ; salvation by grace thru faith
Blue bead - believer's baptism
Green bead - Go! Great Commission
White bead - sheep & shepherd; our pastors
Silver bead - freedom to worship God
Gold bead - heavenly rewards for service
2nd red bead - martyr's blood.

- The final battle of the Civil War was the Battle of Palmito Ranch in Texas. There were over 30 men killed in a Confederate victory, from May 12-13, 1865. The problem was the war had ended a month earlier with the surrender of Lee's army. 30 died & many more were casualties in war already decided. Even so, Satan is a defeated foe. He has lost the war; his fate and doom are sealed. His only goal now is to get as many casualties as he can in the time he has left. Don't be a casualty in a war already won!

Dear Bro. Rasbeary,
I was trying to keep it a secret, but I guess the truth has come out. Before the season started he had asked for his inheritance so he could go root for his own team. I know he is wasting his substance with that riotous team. I am praying that after a little time of cheering for the pigs of the NBA he will come to himself and arise and come back. Then he will confess to me that he has sinned against me, and against Texas!! Then I would accept him back into the family with a feast and a new Dallas Maverick shirt. Please be in Prayer for my Prodigal son. Go Mavs!!!

But the battle was not won

But up upon the mountain top
Where the man of God did pray.
When he upheld his shepherd's staff
The enemy faced defeat;

Israel had to retreat.
Though Moses was the man of God
He was, still, just a man of clay;
Even Moses needed some men
From God to help him on that day.
For men were fighting for their lives,
Their families, nation, and their God;
Moses stood and watched and prayed
But he struggled to hold the rod.
Aaron and Hur saw the need,
And quickly interceded;
While they upheld his weary arms
The enemies receded.
So we see that victory requires
Warriors who in the valley fight;
But we also need a man of God
Standing for us upon the height.
And he needs some faithful men -

THE CRITIC & THE CONTENDER

From a lofty seat scornful laughter falls
As, safe and sound, the angry critic calls
To the man below, to say what he could do
If he just knew what the wise critic knew.
Criticism is all the critic's work -
One from which he does not fail nor shirk;
'Tis easy for him to give good advice,
And it is not hard to be so precise,
Or make the call once the play has been run,
Or, after, to say what one should've done.
While down below on the arena floor
Strives a man, though dirty, battered and sore;
Who wears a mask of dust, and sweat and blood,
And with weary step, struggles through the mud;
Whose whole body, mind and soul have been trained,
And in whose heart and will has been ingrained -
Through losses and the hard lessons thus learned -
That victory is not given, but earned,
Not by the critic on his lofty seat,
But by those who in the arena compete.
The man in the arena knows the cost
That is required in each win or loss;
He knows the long hours that are required
To reach the goal that is so much desired.
The contender knows he may win the crown -
No matter if the critic smile or frown -
And if he strives and falls short of his goal,
He still has abiding deep in his soul
The knowledge that he is not of that class,
Who criticize what they cannot surpass.
He scorns the critic in his lofty seat,
Who never tasted triumph or defeat.
