If you paid your first Irish Water bill, here's why you shouldn't pay the next one....
To the 625,000 that (allegedly) did pay their first Irish Water bill, unfortunately you won't get your money back when #Irishwater collapses, as it now surely will.
But before you pay your next bill (under threat of prosecution), please consider this.
First up, the courts will have to deal with the 500,000 that didn't even register. Under the present system, every one of them will have to appear twice.
Then, each of the 830,000 that registered and didn't pay (the 57%) will have their day in court. Twice.
That's over 2.5 million court cases. Currently, there are 64 DIstrict Court judges in Ireland. They will have to hear over 39,000 cases each before they get to you. That's on top of their present workload.
And because of capped payments, the first hearings won't take place for another 2 years, as €500 is the minimum that you can be prosecuted for.
So those of you that paid your first bill, you might consider a "wait and see" approach before you pay your next one. Don't throw good money after bad. Join the 57% who didn't pay.
