A grand jury has decided not to issue indictments in Sandra Bland’s case. We all saw the video when she was arrested. We saw the confrontation between Sandra and the police officer. We didn’t see how she died.
But there’s one issue many people may have missed.
We saw her family members speaking to the media on a daily basis. But here’s the most important takeaway. Sandra spent three days in jail before she supposedly committed suicide.
The shocking and sad irony is that neither her family nor family friends were able to come up with $500 to get her out of jail, which would have been 10 percent of her bond.
What if during interviews with the media, her family said they couldn’t afford to pay the bond and asked for donations? A Go-Fund-Me account could have been set up. Perhaps in an hour, they could have raised $500, and Sandra would be alive today.
The easiest thing for anyone to do is jump on a bandwagon. That doesn't take any courage or conviction, because you've allowed others to do your thinking.
