La Pandilla Callejera 18, también conocida como "Barrio 18" , es una de las pandillas juveniles más grandes del hemisferio occidental. Al igual que su rival más conocida, la Mara Salvatrucha (MS13), Barrio 18 tiene células que operan desde Centroamérica hasta Canadá, incluyendo Estados Unidos. Con miles de miembros a través de cientos de kilómetros, e intereses en diversas actividades ilícitas, Barrio 18 es una de las más importantes amenazas criminales emergentes en la región. No obstante, es cuestionable hasta qué punto sus diferentes unidades se coordinan a través de las fronteras, o incluso dentro de una misma ciudad.
Barrio 18 apareció por primera vez como una pandilla callejera en Los Ángeles. Aunque algunos remontan sus orígenes a finales de los años cincuenta el grupo comenzó a tomar su forma actual en los años setenta, luego de dividirse de la pandilla Clanton 14th Street. Ganó notoriedad por su papel en los disturbios en esa ciudad después de la absolución de los policías que golpearon brutalmente a Rodney King, un conductor afroamericano.
Originalmente, muchas células del grupo, conocidas como "clicas", eran compuestas exclusivamente por los inmigrantes mexicanos en el sur de California, dominando barrios como MacArthur Park. Sin embargo, cuando otras nacionalidades latinas se unieron a la población inmigrante, Barrio 18 comenzó a reclutar miembros con una variedad de trasfondos, hecho que facilitaría la propagación del grupo a otros países, especialmente en Centroamérica.
Los esfuerzos de las autoridades estadounidenses para frenar el crecimiento de la pandilla no han demostrado ser eficaces. Pese a los esfuerzos por aislar a los líderes de sus contactos en el exterior y de sus compañeros de prisión, jefes de Barrio 18 como Francisco Martínez, alias "Puppet", idearon maneras para seguir operando desde la prisión.
Barrio 18 se expandió hacia el sur en Centroamérica y México, en gran medida como resultado de un cambio en las políticas de inmigración de Estados Unidos en los años noventa, que aumentó el número de cargos criminales por los cuales podría ser deportado a su país de origen un extranjero. La nueva política se aplicó agresivamente a las pandillas en California, donde un gran porcentaje de los miembros de la Barrio 18 no eran ciudadanos estadounidenses. Las deportaciones llevaron a una afluencia repentina de los miembros de la Barrio 18 en Centroamérica y México. Como resultado de ello, algunos sostienen que la política de Estados Unidos ayudó a la propagación de la Barrio 18 a nivel internacional.
La respuesta de los gobiernos centroamericanos al aumento de la actividad pandillera también ha demostrado ser en gran medida contraproducente. A principios del siglo XXI, desde El Salvador, los gobiernos comenzaron a aprobar leyes más estrictas que penalizaban incluso la "asociación" con pandillas. Las llamadas políticas de "mano dura", sólo fomentaron el crecimiento de las pandillas mediante la concentración de muchos miembros en la cárcel, lo cual les permitió reorganizarse y reagruparse.En Centroamérica, el espacio creado para las pandillas extorsionistas y secuestradoras por parte de las débiles fuerzas policiales y un relativamente abierto escenario criminal, fue llenado en parte por Barrio 18 en la primera década del siglo XXI.

En una entrevista reciente con la agencia de noticias costarricense Diario Extra, Francisco Álvarez Urbina declaró que la lucha del ejército hondureño contra el crimen ha empujado a algunos miembros de Barrio 18 y la Mara Salvatrucha (MS13) hacia países cercanos, como Nicaragua y Costa Rica.
Informes anteriores han indicado que Barrio 18 y la MS13 comenzaron a expandir su presencia por fuera de su fortín tradicional en Centroamérica: el "Triángulo Norte", conformado por Honduras, Guatemala y El Salvador.
En 2012, medios de noticias salvadoreños afirmaron que estas pandillas tenían presencia en Belice. Y en 2014, fuentes de noticias nicaragüenses insinuaron que cientos de pandilleros afiliados a la MS13 operaban en el norte de su país.

a lure in dog race training or in dog coursing on a racetrack; (8) trips a horse; (9) injures an animal, other than cattle, horses, sheep, swine, or goats, belonging to another without legal authority or the owner’s effective consent; or (10) seriously overworks an animal.”
Sections (2), (3), (4), (9), or (10) (provide necessary food, care, shelter; abandons; transports in a cruel manner; injures, or seriously overworks) are a Class A Misdemeanor with a fine up to $4000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year. The third conviction of the above is a State Jail Felony, with a fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment from 180 days to 2 years. Syrian rebels in the Golan defect to ISIS
The Syrian rebel militia Al Yarmouk Shuhada Brigades, backed and trained for two years by US officers, mostly CIA experts, in Jordan, and supported by the Israeli army, has abruptly dumped these sponsors and joined up with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, debkafile’s exclusive military and counter-terrorism sources reveal.
The sudden defection of this 2,000-strong anti-Assad force leaves IDF defense formations on the Golan, US and Jordanian deployments in the northern part of the kingdom, and pro-Western rebel conquests in southern Syria in danger of collapse.
The Brigades’ jump into the radical jihadi camp was negotiated in the last two weeks by its commander Mousab Ali Qarfan, who also goes by the name of Mousab Zaytouneh. He was in direct contact with ISIS chief Abu Baqr Al-Baghdadi, whom our sources report has recently relocated from Iraq to his northern Syrian headquarters at al-Raqqa.
Unlike the Sinai Islamists, Ansar Beit al Maqdis, the Yarmouk Brigades did not pledge allegiance to ISIS. The ir pact was forged as an operational alliance, which is just as grave a peril for the rebel militias’ abandoned allies.
For Israel, in particular, the new development is fraught with three dangers:
1. The Yarmouk Brigades are strung out along Israel’s Golan border with Syria, from the UN peacekeepers camp opposite Kibbutz Ein Zivan (see map) in the north, down to the Israeli-Syrian-Jordanian border junction in the south. The Brigades therefore sit along 45 of the total 76 kilometers of the Syrian-Israeli border. This means that a long stretch of Israel’s Golan border with Syria has fallen under the control of the Islamic State.
2. This militia also commands sections of the Syrian-Jordanian border, as well as districts of the southern Syrian town of Deraa. Therefore, the link between Jordan and southern Syria, which served American strategic interests, is now under military threat.
3. ISIS claims downing Russian airliner in Sinai in reprisal for Moscow’s Syria air strikes..Special Report October 31, 2015, 6:48 PM (IDT)

"The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God," said a statement from the Sinai affiliate of ISIS after a Metrojet Airbus 321, carrying 217 Russian tourists and 7 crew from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, crashed in central Sinai early Saturday morning, Oct. 31. There were no survivors. President Vladimir Putin declared Sunday a national day of mourning after sending messages of sympathy to their families.
The terrorists’ statement went on to say: “You should know, Russians and your allies, that you have no security on Muslim land or its airspace… The daily murder of scores of innocents in Syria by your air bombardments will bring upon you disasters… Just as you kill, so you will be killed…”|
Russia's Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov strongly denied as “inaccurate” what he called “assorted information that the Russian passenger plane was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile fired by terrorists.”
DEBKAfile early Saturday attributed the disaster to the ISIS Sinai branch Ansar al-Bait Maqdis, while Moscow and Cairo issued confusing claims as to its cause. They included a distress call from the pilot of the Russian plane to the Egyptian control following a technical fault with a request to reroute the plan to El Arish or Cairo.
However, aviation sources say this exchange never took place and the Airbus abruptly disappeared off the screens indicating a sudden catastrophe.
The Egyptian daily Al-Ahram Arabic quoted the head of Egypt’s Air Navigation as admitting later that the plane’s pilot did not request an emergency landing before crashing.
Responsibility for the air disaster claimed by ISIS takes the war on the Islamic terrorists down to a new security low for all the countries in the region, including Israel. Lufthansa and Air France airlines have suspended all flights over the Egyptian Peninsula. President Putin will be under pressure to decide whether or not to expand Russia’s war on the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq or pull back.

A Russian civilian plane with 217 passengers and 7 crew aboard crashed, and is belived shot down by a missile, over Sinai over Sinai early Saturday morning, Oct. 31, shortly after taking off from the Sinai resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh for St. Petersburg.
Initial reporting on the fate of the plane was confused and is still not completely clear. It was first reported to be missing after contact was lost with Egyptian air control; it was then said to be safely on its way to Russia over Turkey. Russian aviation sources then reported the A321 to be missing over Cypriot air space. Finally, the Egyptian prime minister’s office Egyptian prime minister’s office confirmed that a Russian passenger plane had crashed n central Sinai and a cabinet level crisis committee had been formed to deal with the crash.
The airliner owned by the small airline Kogalymavia disappeared from screen 23 minutes after takeoff from Sharm el-Sheikh. There were many families with children aboard.
DEBKAfile reports: The first claim by Russian aviation sources that the plane had gone missing over Cyprus was an attempt to draw attention from the likelihood that it was shot down over Sinai, where the former Ansar al-Miqdas, which has renamed itself ISIS-Sinai, maintains its main strongholds.

Hizballah will defeat ISIS 'and their American masters', Nasrallah says

Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah, speaking at a rally in southern Beirut on Friday night, defended the terrorist organization's involvement in the Syrian civil war by repeating his allegation that the US is behind ISIS, saying "We shall continue our struggle to confront the American projects. Just like we defeated Israel, the takfiris and their American masters will be defeated as well." - Islamic State will ‘Inevitably’ Gain and Use Weapons of Mass Destruction
It is inevitable the Islamic State will acquire and use weapons of mass destruction, according to the former head of the British Army’s nuclear team.
Dr. Hamish de Bretton-Gordon was formerly commander of Britain’s Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) regiment. He told the Global Resilience Conference in London it is “only a matter of time” before ISIS launches an attack on a major city with weapons of mass destruction.
“ISIS have made it known they want to acquire weapons of mass destruction,” he said. “They run a sophisticated and successful psychological warfare campaign and are now basing that on CBRN weaponry – the ultimate weapon in the terrorist arsenal.”
According to Bretton-Gordon, the Islamic State already possesses chemical weapons such as mustard gas. They also have limited amounts of unenriched uranium.
“The uranium they have is not weaponized,” Bretton-Gordon said, “but we know ISIS have recruited scientists to develop chemical and nuclear weapons.”
They are also known to be attempting to purchase weapons-grade uranium through smugglers in Eastern Europe. The FBI has foiled four such plots so far. - @Fary71
Chilling ISIL threat to Israelis: ‘We are getting closer to you’ from all sides.
Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) released a YouTube video in Hebrew on Oct. 23 saying that the terror group is closing in on Israel and that “we promise you that not a single Jew will be left in the entire country.”
Israel’s Channel 2 reported that a masked youth, who may be an Israeli Arab, appears in the video and speaks fluent Hebrew, warning that “the true war hasn’t yet started, what you’ve experienced until now is a child’s war compared to what will happen soon.”
“We aren’t just speaking hot air — we are getting closer to you from every place, from Sinai and from Damascus and more. The account between us is getting longer and longer. The account will be closed soon.”
The masked jihadist also cited the recent wave of knife attacks on Jews: “Look how you responded to a few car attacks and stabbings — you fell on your heads, you shot anyone who drives fast and anyone with something in their hand.

Hizballah is creeping up on Israel’s Golan border, relying on Russian military cover.
Wholly preoccupied with the ferocious Palestinian terror campaign washing over their country, Israelis have scarcely noticed that Hizballah forces, believing they are protected by the Russian military presence in Syria, are creeping toward Israel’s northeastern Golan border. DEBKAfile reports: The Lebanese group thinks it is a step away from changing the military balance on the Golan to Israel’s detriment and gaining its first Syrian jumping-off base against the Jewish state – depending on the Syrian-Hizballah forces winning the fierce battle now raging around Quneitra opposite Israel’s military positions.
For two years, Hizballah, egged on intensely by Iran, has made every effort to plant its forces along the Syrian border with Israel. For Tehran, this objective remains important enough to bring Al Qods Brigades chief, Gen. Qassem Soleiman, on a visit last week to the Syrian army’s 90th Brigade Quneitra base, which is the command post of the battle waged against Syrian rebel forces.
Soleimani, who is commander-in-chief of Iran’s military operations across the Middle East, is acting as military liaison in Syria between Tehran and Moscow.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the Iranian general inspected the Quneitra battle lines no more than 1.5-2 km from the Israeli Golan border. He arrived a few days after Revolutionary Guards Col. Nader Hamid, commander of Iranian and Hizballah forces in the region, died there fighting against Syrian rebels.
His death betrayed the fact that not only are Hizballah forces gaining a foothold on the strategic Golan enclave, but with them are Iranian servicemen, officers and troops.
While in Quneitra, the Iranian general also sought to find out whether Col. Hamid really did die in battle or was targeted for assassination by Israel to distance Iranian commanders from its border.
Just 10 months ago, on Jan. 18, Israel drones struck a group of Iranian and Hizballah officers who were secretly scouting the Quneitra region for a new base. Iranian Gen. Ali Mohamad Ali Allah Dadi died in that attack.
But Tehran and Hizballah are again trying their luck. During his visit to Quneitra, Soleimani called up reinforcements to boost the 500 Hizballah fighters in the sector.
Seen from Israel, the Syrian conflict is again bringing enemy forces into dangerous proximity to its border.
The Iranian general and Russian Air Force commanders agree that the drawn-out battle for Quneitra will not be won without Russian air strikes against the rebels holding out there. A decision to extend Russia’s aerial campaign from northern and central Syria to the south would be momentous enough to require President Vladimir Putin’s personal approval.
This decision would, however, cross a strong red line Israel laid down when Binyamin Netanyahu met Putin on Sept. 21 in Moscow and when, last week, a delegation of Russian generals visited Tel Aviv to set up a hot line for coordinating Israeli and Russian air operations over Syria.
Israeli officials made it very clear that Iranian and Hizballah forces would not be permitted to establish a presence opposite the Israeli Golan border and that any Russian air activity over southern Syria and areas close to its borders was unacceptable.
The possibility of Israeli fighter jets being scrambled against Russian aerial intervention in the Quneitra battle was not ruled out.
This state of affairs was fully clarified to Gen. Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint US Chiefs of Staff, when he was taken on a trip this week to the southern Golan under the escort of IDF Chief of Staff Gen. Gady Eisenkot and OC Northern Command Gen. Avivi Kochavi. He visited the command post of Brig. Yaniv Azor, commander of the Bashan Division, which will be called upon for action if the hazard to Israel’s security emanating the Quneitra standoff takes a dangerous turn. - @tomnod

Venezuela remplazó a la Triple Frontera como el centro preferido de las organizaciones terroristas que operan en el Hemisferio Occidental, aseguró un panel de expertos que testificaron ante el Congreso de Estados Unidos sobre las actividades del Hezbolá en América Latina.
Los expertos añadieron que el estado venezolano brinda protección directa a estas organizaciones y que la presencia de bancos iraníes en el país petrolero son piezas importantes de la red de financiamiento que estas organizaciones han establecido en la región.
“La isla de Margarita [en Venezuela] hace que la zona de la Triple Frontera luzca como un jardín de infancia”, declaró el exembajador de Estados Unidos ante la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), Roger Noriega, ante el subcomité de Seguridad Interna de la Cámara de Representantes.
La Triple Frontera —zona estratégica donde se unen las fronteras de Argentina, Brasil y Paraguay— fue considerado por mucho tiempo como un punto de interés por los organismos de seguridad estadounidenses ante la sospecha de que organizaciones terroristas de operaban desde allí con cierta libertad ante el escaso control policial de la zona.
Pero los expertos señalaron que la creciente afinidad del gobierno venezolano con las organizaciones revolucionarias de Oriente Medio, convirtieron al país petrolero en una plataforma mucho más estable para servir de centro de operaciones.
“Es mucho mas seguro”, comentó Douglas Farah, experto del International Assessment and Strategy Center. “Allí están totalmente protegidos, a diferencia de en la Triple Frontera, donde en ocasiones las autoridades brasileñas se ponen incómodas y los paraguayos algunas veces reaccionan”.
Para estas organizaciones, Venezuela fue una fácil elección. “Si quieres ir a un sitio, vas a uno donde el Estado brinda protección y donde controla el ambiente”, añadió Farah.
Los expertos señalaron que las operaciones en la región del Hezbolá, organización islamista libanesa prosiria y proiraní considerada como terrorista por Estados Unidos, se centran principalmente en actividades de recaudación de fondos, aún cuando cierta actividad de adiestramiento y vínculos con organizaciones del narcotráfico también ha sido detectada.
“Es una red que está siendo utilizada en este momento para recaudar fondos para la organización, pero es una red que fácilmente puede ser utilizada para proyectar una capacidad operativa”, advirtió Ilan Berman, vicepresidente del American Foreign Policy Council.
Noriega señaló que las actividades son un peligro para Estados Unidos.
“Agentes están entrenando a otros que representan una amenaza física contra Estados Unidos y contra nuestros intereses”, señaló el ex embajador, quien también fue subsecretario de Estado para el Hemisferio Occidental.
“La recolección de fondos es solo una parte, también están buscando una capacidad operativa para atacar nuestros intereses cuando ellos hagan el cálculo que está en sus intereses hacerlo”, enfatizó.
Farah comentó que la Triple Frontera sigue siendo un importante punto de contrabando y que desde allí algunos simpatizantes islámicos canalizan fondos hacia organizaciones como el Hezbolá.
Pero los ejes principales de las redes de financiamiento se encuentran en Venezuela, y en menor medida en Bolivia y Ecuador, donde la presencia de bancos iraníes facilitan las transferencias de significativos volúmenes de fondos hacia esas organizaciones.

The Middle East is currently the arena for a cross-border sectarian war. The weakening or collapse of repressive regimes has unleashed a fierce war for succession between rival populations, with Shia and Sunni Arabs the main protagonists. This process is playing itself not only in Iraq and Syria but in almost all the countries of the region. The regional rivalry between Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia is being intensified. The Iranians are the central pillar of the united and cohesive Shia-dominated bloc which includes the Assad regime in Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon and its allies, the government of Iraq and the Shia militias in that country. The Saudis are now the main force seeking to stem the Iranian advance. The anti-western Turkey-Qatar-Muslim Brotherhood alliance is also an important element on the Sunni side. But now Iran is gaining the upper hand in the Sunni-Shia rift. Iran got another victory in spreading its influence in the region. The Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen has made very significant gains in recent weeks, largely ignored by the western media. With this development Iran has reached to the gates of the Sunni powerhouse of Saudi Arabia.
After Iraq and Syria the events in Yemen ought to concern the west because they demonstrate once again the skill and determination of the Iranians in the game that matters most right now in the Middle East. The Houthi militia, which has been engaged in an insurgency against the government of Yemen since 2004, launched an offensive in September. The movement’s fighters advanced rapidly entered the Yemeni capital, Sana’a. The Shia militia then announced an ultimatum to Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, giving him 10 days to form a new government that would include representation for the Houthis or face unspecified other options. Now at this point in time Iran has considerable influence on four Arab capitals i.e. Damascus, Sana’a, Baghdad, and Beirut through the government of these states or through its proxies. This ability to develop and maintain proxy political-military forces has been an asset in Iranian hands since the birth of the Islamic Republic with the Lebanese Hezbollah the first fruit of it. Teheran appears currently to be repeating this process in Iraq, where brutal Shia militias are playing an ever more important role in the fight against the Islamic State. In Yemen, a similar dynamic is emerging and Syria since long Iranian controlled militia’s operating. Even United States has started believing that stable Middle East can only be achieved by having Iran on board. The United States is anxious to restore the Iraqi government’s authority in oil-rich Iraq, while Iran is eager to defeat a murderously anti-Shiite militia on its western flank so by seeing a common objective for both US and Iran. Phase I: As soon as you notice your pet is gone
As anyone who’s a fan of crime shows on TV can tell you, the most critical time in a missing-persons case is the first 24 hours. The same goes for missing dogs. If your dog has decided to go on an off-leash adventure, the sooner you start looking, the sooner you’ll find him. The longer your dog has to go free, the larger the perimeter you’re going to have to search will be. So as soon as you ascertain that the dog truly is gone (not sleeping behind the couch or hiding in the basement), it’s time to set the wheels in motion.
• Man the phones. If you’ve been smart enough to put your phone number on your dog’s collar (see How to Prevent Your Dog from Going Missing), you’ll hopefully be getting a call from a neighbor or passerby. If the collar has your cell phone number, make sure you take the phone with you on your search. If the collar has a landline, make sure someone is home to answer the phone in case someone calls. Also, if you put the address on the collar, make sure someone’s home in case your dog gets dropped off by someone or comes home on his own.
The person in charge of waiting at home can also use the opportunity to call local animal shelters, veterinarians, and the police department (check your local phone book—there may be a dedicated animal control number, rather than 911). Make sure you use a different phone than the one on your pet’s ID tag or that you have call waiting turned on so you don’t miss any calls from a finder. And don’t forget to leave your phone number and a description of your dog with the shelters in case he turns up collar-less later.
• Take a picture. The best timesaver and memory-jogger on your search is a recent picture of your dog. Then you can show potential witnesses the photo and ask if they’ve seen that dog. It’s a lot faster than having to go through a confusing “We think he’s a poodle and a mix of something else and his fur’s different colors but mostly brown…” If you don’t have a picture of your dog, try and print out a picture of the breed he most resembles. • Bring some bait. Is there a sound your dog loves to hear? Like the shaking of the treat box or a favorite squeak toy? If so, bring that item on the search and make a little noise. That, along with the tone of your voice, can let your pet know you’re not angry and not cause them to hide from you. Hopefully, he’ll come running when he hears his favorite sound.
• Rally the troops. Bring business cards or a pad of paper where you can write your phone number with you. Give your phone number to your neighbors or anyone you run into on the search, and ask them to call you if they see any sign of your dog. There are also Web sites like PetAmberAlert.com or Craigslist where you can post your dog’s disappearance to get your word out to the concerned citizens in your area. Your local shelter or veterinarian may also be able to recommend good Internet resources for your area.
Phase 2: The next day
You looked everywhere for your dog, canvassed the neighborhood, and finally had to give up for the night. Hope is not lost though. Dogs have excellent homing instincts and may be meandering back toward your area after their big adventure. If they have been stolen, there’s still a good chance that someone has witnessed something that can help locate your dog. What can you do in the meantime?
• Create a poster. Include a recent picture of your dog (color, if feasible), your phone number, and a short description of where and when the dog was last seen. Include the dog’s name and offer a reward, but don’t specify an amount. If the reward is too low, people might not bother and if it’s too high, they might think the dog is valuable and try to sell it. Bueno, este es el cuento de lo que pasó: estaba yo entrenando en el Power Club del Dorado, y ya al haber terminado voy saliendo por la puerta principal para irme, en lo que me topo con 4 (no recuerdo si eran 4 o 5) individuos jóvenes, ninguno con pinta de entrenar en un gym, con cara de que no pertenecían a esa área. Mis sospechas de que algo andaba raro se confirmaron cuando vi que uno de ellos (el que aparentaba ser el líder) saca una pistola y grita "todos al suelo, esto es un asalto"... y en ese momento, ya lo tenía en frente mío. Fui su target principal, así que mientras él le daba órdenes a los otros, me arrinconó y empezó a pegarme en la cabeza con la cacha de la pistola. Lo único que yo pensaba mientras me cubría de los golpes era "que no dispare por favor".
Se olvidó de mí, y entró con los otros hasta el área de pesas a robar celulares, relojes, medidores de pulsaciones, en fin, lo que mejor les pareciera.
El que aparentaba menor edad, armado con cuchillo, se quedó en la parte del lobby, donde yo estaba tirado en el piso (mientras yo trataba de estar alerta por si tenía que tomar una decisión rápida) y le gritaba a los que estaban adentro "muévanse, muévanse". En eso, después de unos segundos (que parecieron horas) sale el resto de los chicos corriendo de vuelta hacia la puerta, y se van con todo lo robado, incluyendo la caja menuda del local.
Cuando me reincorporo, notó un gran chorro de sangre que sale de mi cabeza, y es ahí cuando veo que mi camiseta está toda ensangrentada, y que estoy sangrando buco. Obviamente acababa de terminar de entrenar, así que la sangre salía cual chorro.
Lo primero que hago es agarrar mi cel y llamar al 911, mientras veo a los manes del counter del gimnasio estupefactos haciendo nada. Me arrebato y les grito "¿alguien puede llamar al 911 que me estoy desangrando aquí?"... en eso sale la gerente del local de por allá atrás donde queda su oficina, y me dice "ya estoy en eso". El resto del cuento se resume en: nunca perdí el conocimiento, la gerente me ayudó a limpiarme y me dio toallas y hielo para ponerme en la herida, llega la policía a quien explico lo que me pasó, llega la ambulancia (media hora después), me llevan al hospital y me cosen.
Señores de Power Club: soy un fiel cliente suyo, me encantan sus instalaciones, amo entrenar, pero no puede ser posible que en ninguna de sus sucursales tengan seguridad que les asegure (o por lo menos evite) a sus clientes que eventos como este suceda.
Fui afortunado de que solo me pegaron y no me tiraron un balazo. La histeria colectiva después del suceso no se hizo esperar!
Nunca nadie me dijo: "tranquilo que nosotros nos hacemos cargo de este trámite", o por lo menos pedirme mi teléfono para preguntarme como estaba horas después, hubiera sido hasta un poco considerado.

La Asociación de Residentes Naturalizados de Panamá hará un volanteo el martes en la Asamblea
RECHAZO
Inconformidad ante las opiniones emitidas por varios juristas panameños con relación a la feria migratoria Crisol de Razas, fue lo que demostraron ayer, miembros de la Asociación de Residentes Naturalizados de Panamá (Arena).
El presidente de esta asociación, Rafael Rodríguez, explicó que su desacuerdo está basado en que los señalamientos que utilizan los ‘grupos que están en contra de ‘Crisol de Razas’ son ofensivos, ya que con los términos utilizados tratan al extranjero como un delincuente’,, dijo.
Aseguró que los grupos que solicitan el cierre de la feria migratoria, lo están haciendo con argumentos como el aumento de la delincuencia en el país y el desplazamiento de la mano de obra nacional, lo cual carece de fundamento.
Detalló que de los 48 mil extranjeros regularizados en ‘Crisol de Razas’, solamente dos fueron detenidos por delitos comunes. Un colombiano por robo y un venezolano por falsificación de documentos.
‘El que es delincuente lo será con o sin documentos’ advirtió.
Exigen regularizarlo
Ante las declaraciones de los miembros del movimiento Arenas, el vicepresidente de la Comisión de Derecho Migratorio del Colegio Nacional de Abogados, Luciano Yanes, dijo que ellos no buscan que la feria sea clausurada, sino que se regule el tiempo de ejecución.
‘La ley contempla otras formas para legalizar a un extranjero’ puntualizó.

Movimiento Arena critica suspensión del Crisol de Razas

El Movimiento Amigos de Residentes Nacionalizados (Arena) lamentó este lunes la decisión del gobierno nacional de eliminar las ferias migratorias conocidas como Crisol de Razas, como anunció ayer la vicepresidenta, Isabel Saint Malo.
“Lamentamos mucho esta atmósfera de confusión que está acusando de delincuentes a los extranjeros, incluso, ciertas personas que trabajan en los medios de comunicación hacen comentarios denigrantes acerca de los extranjeros”, expresó Rafael Rodríguez, representante de esta organización, en Nex Noticias.
Rodríguez reiteró que de los más de 40 mil extranjeros que han obtenido su carné migratorio, “tan solo dos han sido detenidos por cometer actos ilícitos”.
A su juicio, el desarrollo que está experimentando Panamá hace que necesite de mano de obra calificada. “Para la construcción de la línea 2 del Metro se van a requerir de 5 mil albañiles y Panamá solo tiene 1500 albañiles calificados”, ejemplificó Rodríguez.
También criticó al Colegio de Abogado por lo que cree es “una especie de fobia hacia los extranjeros”, incluso, se muestra sorprendido que miembros de este gremio responsabilicen a los ciudadanos de otros países por la delincuencia.
“El gobierno está tomando decisiones por las presiones que está recibiendo, los abogados están viendo mermados sus ingresos porque muchos de ellos se han aprovechado de extranjeros y los estafan”, aseveró.
Por tal motivo, Rodríguez hizo un llamado al Ministro de Seguridad a reforzar medidas contra este tipo de acciones contra los extranjeros.

Solar Storm Warning: Sun Shoots X-Flare Outburst at Earth
A cantankerous sunspot region erupted with a powerful X1.6-class solar flare at just the wrong time Wednesday. The blast was pointing right at us. That means any resulting outburst of electrically charged particles, known as a coronal mass ejection or CME, could have a disruptive effect.
"Initial information suggests that CME is likely associated with this event, but further analysis is underway at this time," the National Weather Service's Space Weather Prediction Center reported on its Facebook page.
Solar storms don't have a significant impact on human health, although high-altitude fliers and astronauts may get an extra dose of radiation. In a worst-case scenario, the storms can deal a blow to orbiting satellites and power grids on Earth. In a best-case scenario, they merely cause heightened auroral displays.
It generally takes a couple of days for the charged particles associated with a CME to make their way to Earth.
The sunspot region is known as AR2158, and it's been acting up over the past few days. Wednesday's flare was detected at about 1:45 p.m. ET and was strong enough to cause a wide-area blackout of high-frequency radio communication for about an hour.
X-class flares represent the most powerful kind of solar blasts (as opposed to medium M-class flares or the lower-energy A, B or C classes). Solar scientists spotted a triple-X outburst in June, but none of those blasts was directed toward Earth.

Nicaragua's government said Sunday that a loud boom heard overnight by residents of the capital was made by a small meteorite that left a crater in a wooded area near the city's airport. Government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo said a committee formed by the government to study the event confirmed it was a "relatively small" meteorite that "appears to have come off an asteroid that was passing close to Earth." Murillo said Nicaragua will ask international experts to help local scientists in understanding what happened. The crater left by the meteorite had a radius of 12 meters (39 feet) and a depth of 5 meters (16 feet), said Humberto Saballos, a volcanologist with the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies who was on the committee. He said it is still not clear if the meteorite disintegrated or was buried. Humberto Garcia, of the Astronomy Center at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, said the meteorite could be related to an asteroid that was forecast to pass by the planet Saturday night. "It could have come off that asteroid, because it is normal for that to occur. We have to study it more because it could be ice or rock," he said. Wilfried Strauch, an adviser to the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies, said it was "very strange that no one reported a streak of light. We have to ask if anyone has a photo or something." Government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo said a committee formed by the government to study the event confirmed it was a "relatively small" meteorite that "appears to have come off an asteroid that was passing close to Earth." Murillo said Nicaragua will ask international experts to help local scientists in understanding what happened. The crater left by the meteorite had a radius of 12 meters (39 feet) and a depth of 5 meters (16 feet), said Humberto Saballos, a volcanologist with the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies who was on the committee. He said it is still not clear if the meteorite disintegrated or was buried. Humberto Garcia, of the Astronomy Center at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, said the meteorite could be related to an asteroid that was forecast to pass by the planet Saturday night. "It could have come off that asteroid, because it is normal for that to occur. We have to study it more because it could be ice or rock," he said. Wilfried Strauch, an adviser to the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies, said it was "very strange that no one reported a streak of light. We have to ask if anyone has a photo or something." Local residents reported hearing a loud boom Saturday night, but said they didn't see anything strange in the sky. "I was sitting on my porch and I saw nothing, then all of a sudden I heard a large blast. We thought it was a bomb because we felt an expansive wave," Jorge Santamaria said. For the past 18 months, the U.S. has invested heavily in ways to collect and examine social-media postings on Facebook, Twitter and overseas regional networks as a source of overseas intelligence, according to Gen. Flynn and other officials. They say it could revolutionize “open-source” intelligence gathering—the kind that focuses on finding key data from publicly available sources, as opposed to intercepting private communications or stealing secrets.
Officials said government computers can aggregate material from multiple social-media networks and scan massive amounts of information already publicly available to any computer user for trends and links.
Even so, spycraft’s newest offshoot is arousing concerns. To many, mining social media is fraught with risks of privacy violations of Americans. The National Security Agency, another Pentagon intelligence agency, has been sharply criticized for collecting phone records and other data. Others see in social media a vulnerability to adversaries who plant misinformation or mount deception campaigns.
“Reliability and accuracy are a challenge in social media,” said a senior U.S. official. “It gives you a place to look but it shouldn’t be viewed as a gold standard.”
U.S. intelligence agencies also have access to radar data and space-based assets, including the military’s infrared satellites. But it was social media, andtools developed by the intelligence community to mine overseas posts, that allowed the U.S. to quickly accuse Ukrainian separatists of being responsible, according to Gen. Flynn.
Social media intelligence also has helped intelligence agencies monitor the crisis in Gaza, track terror groups and watch as African militia leaders use public posts to give orders to their subordinates, he said.
The new generation of tools allow U.S. spy agencies to look for trends and warning signs of potential national security crises, Gen. Flynn said. They allow intelligence agencies to zero in on social-media postings during a set period from a defined geographic area spanning a few square miles, an entire country, or a continent, he said.
Analysts also can take a Twitter message or other posting and uncover connections between the author and others in the social-media universe; once they find a target’s contacts, analysts can determine the physical location of the contacts—in essence applying the social media network to a real-world map.

Tisha B’Av – the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av, is the Jewish day of national mourning. It marks, among other major tragedies in Jewish history, the destruction of the First and Second Temples and the beginning of the Jewish exile. According to Jewish tradition, with the coming of the Messiah, the Temple will be rebuilt and there will be peace on earth.
On this note, the Temple Institute – a non-profit educational and religious organization located in the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City – has launched a global campaign for the rebuilding of the Temple. This is how to bring true peace to all mankind, says Rabbi Chaim Richman, the Institute’s international director.
“First and foremost, there is the mitzvah (commandment) of building the Temple for the entire nation,” Rabbi Richman told United with Israel during an interview at his Jerusalem office. “The function of the Temple Institute is to awaken the hearts and to serve as a think tank as much as we can on a scholarly level.”
The Institute has been preparing essential vessels for many years, but there are other areas of focus as well, he said.
“Just like any building project of such a scope, you need proper plans. For the Holy Temple, that’s very expensive.”
What is even more important than the money, he said, is providing an opportunity to people to participate in the building of the Temple according to each person’s ability.
“We have actually completed the blueprint for one area of the Temple – the Chamber of Hewn Stone, which is the chamber of the Sanhedrin (rabbinical court).”
With Tisha B’Av only five days away at the time of the interview, Rabbi Richman discussed the significance of the day, “a time when the Jewish People is unified and focused on the destruction of the Temple and when the entire nation becomes a mourner.”
How Do We Stop Mourning the Temple?
Indeed, Jews are in mourning for three weeks, culminating in Tisha B’Av.
However, “how do we ensure that we do not mourn forever? The purpose of the Jewish People is not to be mourners, but to be builders and to be a light unto the nations.”
This project is “a very natural response to this period of time – to be motivated in the midst of our mourning to change the situation,” the rabbi stated, adding that he sees many links to the war with Hamas taking place during this three-week period.
‘The Temple Mount is Under Hamas’
“The simplest connection,” he said, is that the IDF is going all the way into Gaza to capture the “terrorists wanting to kill us, but the Temple Mount is under Hamas. They are flying flags over the Temple Mount…. Mobs of tens of thousands of Arabs rioted there a few days ago.”
Although the site is officially under the administration of the Jordanian Waqf (Islamic Trust), people who attack Jews on the Mount receive monthly salaries from Hamas, Rabbi Richman asserted.
“This is no metaphor. On the simplest level: We are going into Gaza, but they’re in our backyard. And it’s God’s front yard.”
“On a deeper level, he continued, “we are fighting a war of existential survival,” pointing to the IDF’s discovery, during the current war, of Hamas’s plan for thousands of terrorists to invade Israel through dozens of tunnels on the coming Jewish New Year – a plan that was thwarted by the Israeli military.
Difference between Surviving and Flourishing
“But there is a difference between surviving and flourishing,” Rabbi Richman said. “Flourishing means bringing back God’s presence” and making the Holy Temple a place of prayer for all nations, according to the prophecy of Isaiah.
“We are surrounded by hostile Arabs. Are we going to be in it forever, or are we going to bring about the Redemption for all mankind?”

In recent days, various media have been publishing photographs of Hamas leaders in luxurious homes with fitness equipment, at luxury hotels around the world, etc. On the other hand, distressing pictures are being shown of the suffering of the Palestinian people in their rundown houses, whom Hamas says it represents.
One of the big mysteries is how much the Hamas leaders, the Arab world's new tycoons, are worth, and how they, born and raised in refugee camps, who raise aloft the cause of their people's welfare, have become so wealthy and reclusive.
Col. (res.) Dr. Moshe Elad, a lecturer in the Middle East Department of the Western Galilee Academic College, who served in senior positions in the territories for 30 years, is attempting to answer these questions.
"The vast majority of Hamas founders and leaders were refugees or second generation refugees, and some of them were the product of marriages between Egyptians and Palestinians. They had no money at all. When they and Hamas were just starting out, the organization (not in its own name) was nurtured by the Israeli military government, which fostered the Islamic associations working in the Gaza Strip as a counterweight to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Their phenomenal wealth started accumulating when they decided to disassociate themselves from Israel and search for alternative financing sources."
Elad explains that the money came from two directions: "Legacies from the deceased; money from charity funds; a donation called zaka, one of the six pillars of Islam; and donations from various countries. It started with Syria and Saudi Arabia, with Iran added later and becoming one of Hamas's biggest supporters, and ended with Qatar, which has now taken Iran's place."
Together with the donations from various countries, fundraisers began operating in the US to collect money for Hamas. Here, the Hamas leaders began to get their hands on some really big money. "One of those fundraisers was Dr. Musa Abu Marzook, the number 2 man in Hamas," Elad says. "At the beginning of the 1990s, he began a fundraising campaign in the US among wealthy Muslims, while at the same time founding several banking enterprises. He himself became a conglomerate of 10 financial enterprises giving loans and making financial investments. He's an amazing financier."
The US administration ordered Marzook's arrest in 1995 on charges of supporting terrorism. After he spent two years in a US prison, it was decided to expel him without trial. He kept the money. "When he was expelled from the US in 1997, he was already worth several million dollars," Elad says, adding, "Somehow he evaded the clutches of the US Internal Revenue Service and was not charged with financing terrorism. People in the know say he probably became connected to the administration and cooperated with it. There is no proof, but it's hard to think of any other reason why he escaped punishment for such serious offenses. In 2001, in the investigation of the September 11 events, it turned out that he had extensive financial connections with Al Qaeda, including the transfer of funds to the 21 Al Qaeda operatives accused of the attacks."
Today, Marzook is considered one of Hamas's wealthiest billionaires. "Arab sources estimate his wealth at $2-3 billion," Elad says.
Another Hamas leader-turned-tycoon is Khaled Mashaal. "Estimates around the world are that Mashaal is currently worth $2.6 billion, but the numbers mentioned by the Arab commentators (based on their many sources) are much higher, varying from $2-5 billion invested in Egyptian and Persian Gulf banks, and some in real estate projects in the Persian Gulf countries," Elad adds.

The first Marines taking part in the “Force Recon Detachment Concept” are deploying with Second Battalion, Fourth Marine Expeditionary Unit, with the hope that the change helps the elite force do more with less as hot spots pop up around the globe even as the defense budget shrinks.
Previously, one of the two deployed Recon platoons reported to the lower-level Battalion Landing Team commander instead of the MEU commander, which resulted in poor training because of a lack of understanding at the battalion level of what it took to keep Recon proficient. Recon platoons also found themselves underutilized because tasking authorities had to go through two separate commands to get them involved.
“Now the Force Recon Detachment Concept gives the MEU commander two maneuver assets,” said Master Sgt. Cory Paskvan of the Second Reconnaissance Battalion, based at Camp Lejeune. Paskvan explained that concept is comprised of two Force Recon platoons trained to “light capability” — missions like ship takedowns, precision raids and surveillance — that now fall directly under the MEU’s command element. Planners hope a more direct tasking line results in better training and missions tailored to the full extent of Force Recon’s capabilities.
Change is nothing new to Marine Corps Reconnaissance units. Since the earliest days of Recon — the raider and scout missions of the island-hopping campaign in the Pacific Theater during World War II — the elite warriors have adopted new techniques to accomplish the mission wherever it took them and adapted to whatever Headquarters Marine Corps or the Pentagon demanded of them in terms of force structure or mission focus.
Recon grew in the wake of 9/11 as the need for its unique capability increased with the asymmetric wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Then in 2006, the community was faced with what could be considered its biggest structural challenge to date when headquarters decided the Marines needed a Special Operations Command presence and MARSOC was created.

Irlanda: la tierra con mejores escritores por metro cuadrado
¿Qué misterio hace que una isla medio despoblada en el confín de Europa posea la más alta concentración de escritores de talento del mundo? Quizás parte de la respuesta resida en su carácter insular: esto sería comprobable también en Islandia (en la que, por cierto, se asentaron monjes irlandeses antes de la llegada de los escandinavos) o en Cuba. Pero hay otros ingredientes que intervienen en la fórmula magistral de su literatura única.
Para empezar, Irlanda merecería respeto aunque solo fuera por haber tenido un alfabeto propio (el ogham, usado en inscripciones) y por sus canas, más venerables que Beda: la tradición abarca de manera ininterrumpida ya dieciséis siglos. Luis Cernuda, que llegó a conocer bien la obra de Yeats pero lo ignoraba casi todo de los compatriotas de este, llegó a escribir que le parecía exagerado un libro que hablaba de “mil años de literatura irlandesa”. Ciertamente, el título era inexacto, pero no por exceso sino por defecto: porque a su arco temporal hay que añadir varias centurias de la rica literatura vernácula de los ciclos del Ulster y de Finn (que abordan temas y personajes de cuando alborea la era cristiana). Los relatos paganos adquirieron luego en los monjes, a partir del siglo V, una continuidad que llega a nuestros días. En los lejanos medievales, tiñeron los grandes temas amorosos e influyeron en el romance artúrico.
Joyce no fue muy novedoso al recrear La Odisea. La primera adaptación (como la de 1922, muy libre) de Homero a cualquier lengua vernácula se hizo al irlandés medio (hacia 1200): en ella, Ulises hijo de Laertes muda en Uilix mac Leirtis. Y hubo también injertos de la materia troyana en la literatura irlandesa antes que en ninguna otra.
Existe una interesante literatura latina irlandesa (de raíz religiosa, ya que la isla nunca fue parte del Imperio romano), pero sobre todo es de destacar la convivencia, a menudo violenta, entre la lengua gaélica y el inglés. En la interacción de ambos idiomas habrá que ver la fertilidad del país.
En El Libro de las Conquistas (Akal) tenemos la prehistoria mítica de esta ínsula extraña. Luego, el héroe Cú Chulainn ha inspirado gestas como las recogidas en La embriaguez de los ulates (Torre Manrique) o las ensambladas por Lady Gregory en Cuchulain de Muirthemne (Paréntesis). Pocos saben que, según la tradición, un manuscrito con esta epopeya se perdió por haberse canjeado por otro de las Etimologías del hispalense san Isidoro, muy popular en los scriptoria hibérnicos.
En el siglo XVIII descuella la sátira del deán de la catedral de San Patricio, Jonathan Swift, con Viajes de Gulliver (Pre-Textos) o Una humilde propuesta (Nórdica). Con confusión daltónica, el rojo de la sangre empezó a manar en la Isla Esmeralda con Sheridan Le Fanu, autor de Carmilla (Alianza), y Bram Stoker , de Drácula (Mondadori). Lord Dunsany es maestro de lo fantástico, como en Cuentos de los tres hemisferios (Espuela de Plata).
El siglo XIX, el de la Hambruna, es el de la emigración (como las abejas de algunos tratados medievales de apicultura en gaélico, muchos irlandeses marcharon a polinizar otras flores, otros países). Y prepara el XX, el de la gran eclosión: James Joyce escribe Ulises o Dublineses (los dos en Cátedra) y Liam O’Flaherty novela el bandidaje político en El delator (Asteroide). Por su parte, Oscar Wilde, infinitamente traducido, ha llegado a simbolizar el ingenio y la chispa irlandeses. De Beckett, se ha publicado recientemente su primera novela, Sueño con mujeres que ni fu ni fa (Tusquets).

El Sistema Solar es un conjunto formado por la estrella que se sitúa en el centro, a la cual llamamos Sol, más todos los planetas, con sus satélites, cometas, asteroides, y demás cuerpos menores que giran a su alrededor. Además de otras diferencias en cuanto a composición y diferentes magnitudes, la primera que nos llama la atención es el tamaño, y sobre todo cuando comparamos a cualquiera de los otros cuerpos con el Sol. Por ejemplo: para igualar el diámetro del planeta Júpiter haría falta poner en fila 11 planetas Tierra. Pero para poder igualar el diámetro de nuestro sol, con casi 1.400.000 Km., necesitaríamos una fila formada por algo más de 109 planetas Tierra.
Al oír este tipo de comparaciones y después de intentar concentrarse por un rato, uno llega a pensar que realmente nuestro Sol tiene un tamaño inimaginable y que en este campo no puede tener rival. Sin embargo, la estrella de la que les voy a hablar no podría considerar al Sol como a un rival porque, simplemente, no sería capaz de detectar su presencia.
Para observarla desde la Tierra, utilizando un telescopio, tendríamos que apuntar a las cercanías de la constelación llamada Can Mayor. Se trata de una estrella situada a unos 4900 años luz de nosotros, denominada VY Canis Majoris, que en el catálogo Hipparchos posee el número 35793.
Hoy en día es comúnmente aceptado que VY Canis Majoris tiene un tamaño tan colosal que su diámetro podría alcanzar los 2.800.000.000 de km.
Para ayudarles a comprender lo inconcebible del tamaño de esta estrella necesitaríamos echar mano de algunas comparaciones:
- Para recorrer una vuelta completa a nuestro Sol por el ecuador, y a una velocidad de casi 300.000 km/s, la luz tardaría 14,5 segundos, sin embargo, para hacer lo mismo en VY Canis Majoris, necesitaría más de 8 horas.
- Si quisiéramos representar a VY Canis Majoris con un proyector de alta definición, de 1920×1080 píxeles, de manera que cupiese entera la imagen, sería imposible representar al Sol, ya que un solo píxel, que es el punto más pequeño que se puede proyectar, sería más grande que nuestro Sol.
- Su diámetro es tan gigantesco que necesitaríamos poner unos 2.000 soles en línea recta, si ocupara el centro del Sistema Solar, en lugar del Sol, sobrepasaría la órbita de Saturno, por lo que Mercurio, Venus, la Tierra, Marte, el Cinturón de Asteroides, Júpiter y el mismo Saturno serían devorados por ella.
- Si para dar la vuelta a nuestro planeta por el ecuador, un avión comercial que viaja a 900 km/h. tarda unas 44 horas, para hacer lo mismo en VY Canis Majoris tardaría más de 1.100 años.
- Por último, y reduciendo las escalas hasta algo abarcable para nosotros, si imaginásemos a la Tierra como una bolita de algo menos de 6 centímetros, por ejemplo, un albaricoque, y al Sol como una bola de 6 metros y medio, algo esférico, de un tamaño parecido al de un camión de bomberos, VY Canis Majoris tendría el descomunal tamaño de una esfera de casi 13 km de diámetro.
Tras ser conscientes de la existencia de cuerpos de esta magnitud no utilizaremos el famoso dicho de “no somos nada”, en su lugar bien podríamos utilizar una modificación diciendo que “no somos casi nada”. - @Fary71 @dra_jessica
PANAMA, es un pais inseguro para aviacion internacional.
Panamá no es un país ‘seguro’ en materia aeroportuaria o aviación civil, según la Organización Internacional de Aviación Civil (OACI).
La OACI envió un mensaje muy claro a las autoridades panameñas en noviembre de 2013, a través de una comunicación firmada por el presidente del Consejo y el Secretario General de esta entidad, en la que se advierte que ‘Panamá es un país inseguro para la aviación’ a nivel internacional en el tema de seguridad aeroportuaria o aviación civil.
Con ese enfoque se solicita que se adopten las peticiones de esta agencia y, de igual forma, se alerta de la próxima visita de los miembros de la OACI a Panamá, en la que se pretenden evaluar los alcances de algunas recomendaciones que se han efectuado por un periodo de dos años.
El asunto no es nada nuevo para las autoridades panameñas. El director de la Autoridad de Aeronáutica Civil (AAC), Rafael Bárcenas, confirmó que la OACI envió una misiva al presidente de la República, Ricardo Martinelli; a los ministros de Estado, y a su persona, en la que hace los señalamientos citados, sin embargo, afirmó que a ‘esta administración no le interesa separar pasajeros, no lo hará y no piensa hacerlo’.
En marzo de 2012, representantes de este organismo visitaron el aeropuerto de Tocumen con el propósito de efectuar una auditoría. El ejercicio encontró más de cincuenta puntos en los que se debería mejorar; de estos, hubo tres asuntos significativos que requieren una obligada solución.
Uno de ellos, y quizás el más sensitivo, se refiere a la separación de pasajeros que entran y salen de la terminal. El Aeropuerto de Tocumen es de los únicos del mundo donde se mezclan los visitantes.
Esto se considera un punto delicado y recurrente en las últimas inspecciones que ha efectuado la OACI, pues se considera un punto vulnerable para el terrorismo porque se pone en riesgo la seguridad operacional de la terminal aérea.
En este contexto, la organización recomendó un programa de correcciones entre las que se sugiere implementar medidas que han ejecutado otros aeropuertos desde donde se originan vuelos a Tocumen. De esta forma, habría una hegemonía entre las instalaciones, y Panamá podría considerarse un punto de partida confiable, tanto para los pasajeros como para la aviación internacional.
Lo que sucede, explica Bárcenas, es que habría que cambiar el esquema de operación de Tocumen porque se afectarían las conexiones.
Con la próxima inauguración del ala sur, habría aproximadamente 2.5 kilómetros entre ambos extremos que los pasajeros tendrían que caminar para conectar sus vuelos y les tomaría mucho tiempo hacer el recorrido. En caso de que acatáramos estas sugerencias, los pasajeros correrían el riesgo de perder sus vuelos, indicó Bárcenas.
Otro punto por el cual no se ha adoptado la división de viajeros, es por el tema del duty free . Bárcenas expresó que si se ejecuta esta medida, el comercio libre de impuestos en el aeropuerto también se vería afectado debido al flujo de pasajeros.

Jesús el caminante y maestro se encuentra con muchas personas en múltiples necesidades en su camino a Jerusalén. En Marcos 10:17-31, Jesús se encuentra con un joven rico. Para este joven no había nada de malo en ser rico y ser una persona justa ante los ojos de Dios. ¿Cómo podemos entender a este joven, para ayudarnos a entendernos a nosotros mismos a no caer en la trampa de convertir el uso de los bienes materiales en idolatría?
Bueno, un factor que afectaba a la economía del mundo antiguo era la del honor‑vergüenza. Este era un valor más romano que bíblico, pero por supuesto afectaba a todas las clases sociales judías. Por un lado, a la pobreza no se la veía como una desgracia, sino como algo vergonzoso, una maldición de Dios. Por otro lado, a la riqueza se la consideraba como algo honorable, y a los ricos como personas bendecidas por Dios. Por tanto, para el joven rico no había nada de malo con ser rico y ser justo. Sin embargo, esta concepción del ser rico que apunte a ser directamente bendecido por Dios, es falsa! ¿Por qué? Esto contradecía las Escrituras en cuanto a creer que los ricos eran ricos por bendición divina. Cualquiera podía enriquecerse y prosperar por su propia maldad como lo muestra el Salmo 73.
La prosperidad financiera no esta directamente ligada a la bendición de Dios. Permítanme aclarar. Desde las Escrituras podemos extraer que el poseer propiedades no es en sí algo malo. El problema yace en el peligro que nos lleva al materialismo (Deuteronomio 8:17, 18; Salmo 52:7; Mateo 6:24; Lucas 6:24, 25, 12:16‑21; 1 Timoteo 6:9, 10; Apocalipsis 3:17) como idolatría. ¿Cómo saber la diferencia? La mayordomía bíblica en cuanto a las posesiones materiales está basada en el principio de que el dueño último de toda propiedad y bienes es Dios, y las riquezas son un don divino en vez de un esfuerzo humano. Por tanto, toda propiedad es en sí sagrada pues nos ha sido confiada por Dios para bendecir a futuras generaciones; y el beneficio de toda propiedad no debe ser solamente para el mayordomo que temporalmente la dispone, sino también para ser compartida adecuadamente con otros, principalmente para proveer y proteger a los más explotados en nuestra sociedad.
En el Antiguo Testamento encontramos que durante y después de la monarquía (el exilio) las desigualdades sociales y explotación social se agudizan. Por ejemplo, aquellos esfuerzos divinos por evitar la acumulación de riqueza en pocas manos (e. g., como el año sabático, y el jubileo) no fructifican por la desobediencia humana. Esto sucede por medio del surgimiento de nuevas clases sociales como la monárquica, y una nueva clase comercial. Ambas desarrollan estilos de vida de lujos y riquezas, sin mostrar interés alguno por las miserias de los pobres. Por tanto, el pacto de paz y prosperidad por obediencia a Dios de vez en cuando se detecta con algunos buenos reyes (2 Reyes 18‑20, 22, 23), pero en general la desobediencia prevalece, y con ella la miseria. Es en este contexto de critica ante tanta explotación social, donde lo profetas nos pueden ayudar a entender lo el trasfondo a lo que Jesús busca apuntar.
Los profetas juegan un papel importante para recordarle al pueblo, y principalmente a los lideres que su pecado les traerá miseria. A continuación vamos a ver dos grandes segmentos temáticos, donde cada uno de esos segmentos los vamos a dividir en cinco categorías de pecados. Esto nos ayudará a comprender mejor el mensaje crítico de los profetas hacia una sociedad clasista y explotadora; un mensaje que puede ayudarnos a entender lo que el joven rico no entendía (algo que nos puede costar mucho entender hoy) y que Jesús quería comunicar.

One of the world's leading scientists makes the claim in a new television documentary series, beginning on the Discovery Channel next month.
Hawking says that in a universe with 100 billion galaxies, each containing hundreds of millions of stars, it is unlikely that earth is the only place where life has evolved.
"To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational," he said, according to The Sunday Times.
Hawking says that they could be microbes – basic animals such as worms which have been on Earth for millions of years, but suggests that extraterrestrial life could develop much further.
"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet," Hawking said.
"I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach."
The scientist, who is paralysed by motor neurone disease, warned that contact with alien life could spell disaster for the human race.
"If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the American Indians."

Don't pack away those winter coats and hats yet!
We're in for another blast of cold Arctic air, which is gearing up to roll across most of the country this week, but it won't be as bad as the shocking freeze in January.
The National Weather Service says some places from the central U.S. to the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys could be having some frosty high temperatures, as low 20 to 30 degrees below normal.
If you call it Polar Vortex Part II (or III or IV), meteorologists say you'd be wrong -- nor was the first big cold spell of 2014, strictly speaking, a strike of the Polar Vortex.
The Polar Vortex stays anchored over Baffin Bay, to the north of Canada, and doesn't move, says CNN meteorologist Sean Morris. But its shifting pattern allows cold Arctic air to spill southward into the United States.
"When it weakens, this allows the cold Arctic air that is often mislabeled the "Polar Vortex" to spill southward across the U.S. border and bring us bone-chilling temperatures," Morris explained.
So from a technical perspective, "if you're looking to get 'struck' by the vortex, you're out of luck," he added.
Although this cold snap doesn't have as menacing a name, the Arctic air blast will cause temperatures to plummet 25 to 35 degrees below average east of the Rocky Mountains, Morris said.
Temperatures will drop Tuesday to 10 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year in places such as Minnesota and the Dakotas. Then the arctic blast will roll east.
By the middle of the week, the freeze zone will sweep the Midwest and the East Coast, plunging lows into the single digits in Indiana and Massachusetts, among other states.
It will cover two thirds of the country; even parts of the Deep South will drop down below freezing -- but just for a night or two, the National Weather Service said.
There will probably be some snow here and there, but the good news is that things should stay pretty dry, the weather service said.
Many of us will shiver. That's about it.
It won't be like that original "Polar Vortex" -- which again, was a misnomer -- which debuted in early January. In case you forgot: The country experienced record low temperatures and freezing pipes all the way down to Alabama when a large frigid air mass broke free from the Arctic and came down to visit.
Meanwhile, along the Gulf Coast, a warm front will increase shower and thunderstorm activity in that region and the Southeastern states Tuesday and into Wednesday.
"By Wednesday afternoon, the front begins to push offshore again and heavier precipitation should begin to diminish. However, a developing surface wave along this front could clip the Mid-Atlantic with some light snows on Wednesday before it moves farther out to sea," the National Weather Service said.
For those of you in the West, you will probably not experience precipitation Tuesday except for possible light snow showers in the higher terrain of the Northern Rockies. Wednesday, precipitation will move inland through California.
Back in the cold East, well, maybe Punxsutawney Phil saw this coming.

La DM normalmente se llama “adamsita” o “gas vomitivo” y contiene alrededor del 27 por ciento de arsénico. Al ser recristalizada a partir de benceno-ácido acético glacial, la DM es un sólido amarillo esencialmente inodoro. Es un irritante a una concentración de una fracción de miligramo por metro cúbico y se cree que sea letal a 1500 mg/m3 con una exposición de 10 minutos. La DM se prepara mezclando difenilamina con tricloruro de arsénico. El producto usado en las municiones químicas es muy impuro y contiene una variedad de contaminantes. La DM puede envenenar el agua y los alimentos que estén al descubierto en las áreas afectadas. Cinta adhesiva negra ancha
Procedimiento
1. Cortamos la botella de plástico por la mitad con una cuchilla.
2. Mezclamos el agua caliente con el azúcar en la base de la botella a modo de recipiente.
3. Ponemos la mezcla a enfriar.
4. Añadimos la levadura. No es necesario mezclarla. Rápidamente se irá creando dióxido de carbono.
5. Insertamos la parte de arriba de la botella dentro de la base, formando un embudo.
6. Cubrimos toda la botella con la cinta adhesiva sin tapar la abertura superior, y colocamos la trampa en alguna esquina de la casa.

Russian strategic forces carried out a large-scale surprise military drill on Wednesday, launching four nuclear missiles that were closely monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies, U.S. officials said.
The drill began around 9:00 am ET and included the test launch of two land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and two submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).
The test firings were unusual because of the number of missiles fired at one time, said officials who discussed some details of the drill on condition of anonymity.
State Department spokeswoman Alexandra F. Bell confirmed the tests and said the long-range missile firings were “conducted consistent with the requirements of the New START Treaty.”
At the Pentagon, spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith said: ”With regard to Russia’s recent testing of its strategic forces missiles, the United States received the proper notifications prior to the launches.”
Other officials said the tests were notified in advance to the U.S. government as required by a 1988 U.S.-Soviet agreement requiring advance notification of ICBM and SLBM launches. The agreement requires notifying the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, run by the State Department, of the impending launches within four days of their launch.
Mark Schneider, an arms control specialist, said Russian reports of the exercises described the test firings as a “a major strategic nuclear exercise involving a nuclear war.” The exercises also involved Russian President Vladimir Putin as a commander.
Schneider, a policy analyst at the National Institute for Public Policy, said the last similar Russian strategic exercise took place two weeks before the 2012 presidential election and were described as the first time Putin personally tested an automated communication and management system for nuclear forces.
“Minimum deterrence advocates like to ignore these exercises,” Schneider said. “I think they are very important and point out the need to maintain a strong triad” of missiles, submarines, and bombers.
The missiles test fired were identified by the officials with their NATO code names, including a silo-based SS-18 and a road-mobile SS-25, along with the two submarine-launched missiles, an SS-N-18 and SS-N-23.
The SS-18 is Russia’s largest land-based ICBM with a range of up to 10,000 miles and up to 10 warheads, or multiple, independently-targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs).
The SS-25 is a road-mobile missile capable of launching up to four MIRVs and has a range of up to 6,200 miles.
The SS-N-18 Stingray missile can be equipped with up to seven warheads and is carried on Delta III missile submarines. It has a range of up to 5,000 miles.
The SS-N-23 can carry up to 10 MIRVs and has a range of up to 5,000 miles. It is deployed on Delta IV missile submarines.
A Kremlin spokesman in Moscow said the “surprise check” of nuclear forces, aerospace defenses, and naval and strategic aviation were ordered by “Commander-in-Chief, President Vladimir Putin.”
“Ballistic missiles were launched, the air defense and missile defense systems were used,” Dmitri Peskov, the spokesman, was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying. “All launches took place as expected. All of the practice targets were hit.”
Other reports identified the exercise as a “snap inspection.”
The SS-25, which Russia calls the Topol, was launched from Plesetsk and the SS-18, called RS-20V, was launched from Dombarovski located near the border with Kazakhstan in Central Asia.
Additionally, Russian forces fired four short-range SS-26 and SS-21 short-range missiles from the Kapustin Yar test center near the Black Sea. Those missiles traveled over 60 miles.

A series of very strong and shallow earthquakes has been detected southeast of Falkland Islands, South Pacific Ocean, early on November 25, 2013.
The first earthquake in series was M 5.1 that hit at 10:09 UTC today. USGS is currently reporting two earthquakes at 06:27 UTC - M 5.1 and very strong M 7.0. The fourth earthquake in series was M 5.4 at 06:41 UTC.
M 5.5 followed at 07:21 UTC.
All depths ranged from 10 - 15.1 km.
Epicenters are located approximately 321 km (199 miles) SE of Stanley, Falkland Islands and 872 km (542 miles) E of Ushuaia, Argentina - 53.881°S 54.882°W.
No tsunami warning was issued. There are no people living within 100 km radius.

A phenomenon of unprecedented intensity struck a Dodecanese Island, Astypalea. It was a heavy storm that lasted for more than ten hours, during which trees were uprooted and houses flooded. The island’s residents reported that they have not faced anything like this in the past. During the storm which started at 9 am, a whirlwind occurred that uprooted trees, while due to the heavy rainfall, many houses were flooded in various regions of the island. A Springtown family is concerned about the integrity of its home since several sinkholes started appearing on its four-acre property four months ago. Tracey Napier said she is very nervous about them. "I'm not a worrywart, but I'm very worried about this," she said. None of the holes appear to be deeper than a foot and most are quite small in diameter, but the results, the family says, are apparent. There is a large crack in the master bedroom window, and the front screen door appears to be out-of-line with the door frame. A fence post that was painted white all the way down to the ground several years ago now shows between one-and-a-half inches to two inches of unpainted wood at the bottom. The Napier family's frustration began before five earthquakes shook the ground in the area around its community in the past seven days. Earthquakes were detected near the Mid-Cities, Reno and Springtown from Nov. 1-7. The U. S. Geological Survey reports a 2.1 magnitude quake was centered 1 mile southeast of Richland Hills just before noon on Nov. 1. Then, on Tuesday, a minor earthquake was reported near Azle. According to the U.S. Geological Survey's website, the magnitude-2.6 earthquake hit about 1 mile east-southeast of Reno and about 2 miles north of Azle at about 9:32 p.m.
An aftershock to that earthquake was also felt Tuesday night at about 10 p.m. Wednesday was another shaky day in North Texas. The U.S. Geological Survey said a 2.7-magnitude earthquake was detected at 11:05 a.m. about 26 miles northwest of Fort Worth near Springtown. According to the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, the vibration would have felt like passing heavy trucks. Stopped cars would rock, hanging objects to swing, windows, dishes and doors to rattle, glasses to clink and wooden walls and frames creak. There were no reports of injuries or damage in any of the earthquakes. Napier said her sinkholes and the nearby earthquakes are "just crazy." Adding to the Napier family's frustration is that they have yet to receive a clear answer explaining why any of this is happening. A total of 21 coastal barangays in Iloilo City were advised to prepare for possible storm surges and giant waves to be brought by Typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan), which is expected to affect central Philippines. Residents of 14 city barangays along the rivers and tributaries that are prone to flooding were also advised to seek higher grounds as a pre-emptive measure. Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said Yolanda, which packs winds of 215 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 250 kph as of 1 p.m. Thursday, is expected to pass the Visayas islands, including the northern part of Panay, on Friday noon, November 8. With this, Mabilog likewise ordered no classes in all levels on Friday, and City Hall employees were advised to go home at 3 p.m. Thursday. Work on Friday has also been suspended.
